The recent judicial drama surrounding the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) has once again exposed the deep rot within its ranks. The once formidable political platform that proudly called itself “Africa’s largest party” has descended into chaos and ridicule. What is playing out today is nothing short of a macabre dance of shame.
Only a few days ago, the Federal Capital Territory High Court — where Nyesom Wike now presides unofficially as “Governor-General” — restrained the PDP from holding its National Convention on the pretext that the National Secretary did not sign the official notice. Yet, in a twist of judicial irony, the Oyo State High Court — in a state where Wike’s loyal ally is Governor — has now compelled the same PDP to proceed with the convention and even directed INEC to monitor it.
This contradictory legal theatre is not mere coincidence; it is a show of raw power and manipulation. The same group of five governors, notoriously called the *G5*, were only united when their common mission was to undermine Atiku Abubakar. Once Atiku stepped away from the PDP’s mainstream, their shallow alliance collapsed, and they have since turned on one another in a bitter struggle for dominance and survival.
What Nigerians are witnessing is not politics of principle but politics of personal interest — a desperate fight for control dressed up as party reform. The G5 experiment has imploded, leaving behind a trail of division, judicial embarrassment, and moral bankruptcy.
The truth is simple: the PDP’s crisis is not about ideology or leadership renewal. It is about selfish ambition, vendetta, and the abuse of power. The recent court contradictions are not a reflection of democracy in action but of a judiciary being used as a pawn in political gamesmanship.
The PDP must look inward and decide whether it wants to continue as a circus or return to being a credible opposition. As it stands, this charade only vindicates Atiku Abubakar’s long-standing position — that without integrity, discipline, and internal democracy, no political party can command the respect of Nigerians.
