The leadership of South East Patriots (SEP) is pleased to announce that the organisation has been formally registered as a support group of the African Democratic Congress (ADC).

This development marks an important step in the growing national coalition seeking to rebuild Nigeria through credible leadership, structural reforms, and people-centred governance.

SEP calls on all people of the South East geopolitical zone, both at home and in the diaspora, to register with the African Democratic Congress online at: adcregistration.ng and actively participate in the democratic process within the party.

The South East must engage constructively in national politics. The ADC presently offers the shortest route and most credible democratic pathway to the emergence of a President from the South East, anchored on fairness, constitutional reform, and national balance.

The registration of SEP within the ADC platform therefore provides an organised structure through which the aspirations, ideas, and development priorities of the South East can be articulated and pursued within a national framework.

POLICY PRIORITIES OF SOUTH EAST PATRIOTS WITHIN ADC

SEP will actively advocate within the party for policies that promote national productivity, economic integration, and equitable political representation.

Key policy areas that SEP will promote include:

1. Decongestion of Nigerian Ports

Nigeria’s current maritime structure is dangerously over-centralised in Lagos.

SEP will advocate for a national logistics framework that:

revitalises eastern ports including Port Harcourt, Onne, Warri, and Calabar;

reduces pressure on Lagos ports;

creates new commercial corridors across the federation;

expands trade and logistics employment.

2. Strategic Development of Inland Waterways

SEP will promote policies supporting the dredging of the River Niger to allow commercial vessels to transport goods from eastern ports inland to Lokoja and Makurdi, thereby opening a major north–south trade corridor and stimulating economic activity across multiple regions.

Such development will reduce pressure on federal highways, lower logistics costs, and create new inland commercial hubs linking southern ports with northern markets.

3. Electricity Infrastructure and Industrial Growth

Affordable and reliable electricity remains central to Nigeria’s economic recovery and the industrial revitalisation of the South East.

SEP will advocate for practical and immediate solutions based on existing infrastructure. The least that the Federal Government can do is to grant right of way for the extension of existing gas supply networks that already power electricity generation in the region.

For instance, the Shell gas infrastructure currently supplying electricity generation to Aba should be extended to other major cities across the South East, thereby creating a regional gas-to-power industrial corridor.

SEP will therefore advocate for the strategic expansion and interconnection of gas and electricity infrastructure including:

Extension of the Shell gas pipeline network supplying Aba to major commercial centres across the South East;

Full development and linkage of the main electricity–gas supply infrastructure located in Anambra State, including:

Onitsha – the planned gas-fired power station serving the commercial capital of the region;

Okija (Ihiala LGA) – the large gas-fired power plant project capable of significantly increasing regional electricity generation;

Anambra Basin – the natural gas resource area capable of supporting long-term energy security for the region.

SEP further advocates that these gas resources be fully activated and expanded toward the Nnewi industrial axis, particularly to supply power to the Federal Industrial Park located in Nnewi South, a strategic industrial facility that appears to have been neglected for several years despite its enormous economic potential.

If properly connected through a regional gas-to-power network, this infrastructure can:

power manufacturing clusters across Aba, Onitsha, and Nnewi;

revive dormant industrial facilities;

attract new investments;

create large-scale employment opportunities;

significantly reduce reliance on diesel-powered generators.

Reliable energy supply remains the single most important factor in restoring the South East as one of Nigeria’s foremost manufacturing hubs.

4. National Rail Infrastructure

SEP supports the completion and expansion of critical rail infrastructure including the Port Harcourt–Aba–Enugu–Makurdi–Maiduguri rail corridor, which will integrate multiple regions of the country and significantly reduce transportation costs for goods and people.

5. Constitutional Reform: Presidential Rotation

SEP strongly supports the constitutional rotation of the presidency among Nigeria’s six geopolitical zones to promote fairness, stability, and national unity.

Such rotation should begin with zones that have had the least opportunity in the current democratic dispensation.

No zone should remain permanently excluded from the presidency in a federation built on diversity and equity.

6. A Single Non-Renewable Six-Year Presidential Term

SEP will advocate within the ADC for the adoption of a single six-year presidential tenure, which will:

eliminate the distortions created by re-election politics;

reduce corruption incentives tied to campaign financing;

encourage long-term policy planning and governance.

A CALL TO ACTION

The South East must move from political complaint to organised political participation.

SEP therefore calls on:

youths

professionals

entrepreneurs

students

civil society organisations

and the diaspora community

to join the African Democratic Congress by registering online at adcregistration.ng and participating actively in shaping Nigeria’s future.

The time has come for constructive engagement, strategic participation, and national leadership.

Nigeria must work again.
